What do I do?

Posted by Administrator in Linux

I am a web developer. Part of my job description is to look at companies and figure out ways of how I can help them become more efficient, more productive, while at the same time lessening their workload. make them lean and mean. I do this by utilizing my skills in programming and knowledge of web technologies.
Most people thought that when somebody says “web technology” it always means internet. That is not necessarily true. By web technology, it means that applications are run through the browser, and using same methods as used in the internet, even though it is done locally. These have many advantages compared to traditional ways of developing applications, such as:

  • Shorter development time. Software that used to take a year to develop might only need a couple of months.
  • Faster deplyment. Client computers only need a regular web browser to use the application. No software to install on the client computer.
  • Safer on the long run. Because many web technologies employ widely-used programming method, developers are widely available, even though they were not original developers of the application. You almost cannot have that in traditional applications. Once you buy a regular application, you are tied to that vendor.
  • Future proof. The world is moving to web. In the future, more and more applications are going to exist in the server, not client computer. Web technology is the future.
